NATURE 2000. VALLEY OF UPPER NAREW RIVER. ed MIROSLAW STEPANIUK

Mirosław Stepaniuk - Natura 2000 In 2004, we prepared an unusual publication "Nature 2000" by Miroslaw Stepaniuk. This 56-pages long publication which was published by PTOP within the "Nature 2000" project. Here are some fragment of the introduction to the book:

"Poland has recently become the member of European Union. Dreams of many countrymen have fulfilled, many of us are anxious and ask questions what the future is, where in the European family is our place. Statistician will tell that Poland has the largest population among newly accessioned countries, and that Polish people are better and better educated and dynamic men. Marketing advisor will see near 40-million market and the superb trade position on axes of West-East and North-South. Indeed, we should see our chances and make the most of the opportunity.
However the highest treasure, which we contribute to dowry of Europe, is our multicultural where Rome alternates with Byzantium and where there is unusual, unique, often menaced, but yet virginal nature. This publication, to which I have honour to write these words, is the confirmation of this fact. How great this capital is, probably still underestimated is our Białowieza-Biebrza-Narew region where stork is almost a member of a family, and a ruff (in Polish batalion) is not necessary associated with an army. Twenty years ago, in text to Wolkow's beautiful picture album, Eduard Redliński wrote: "... Stork? And wanderer! And it likes children! And happiness it brings!(...)"
